How are TYPO3 and PHP updates connected, and why are these updates so important?

The TYPO3 CMS offers numerous advantages – provided the updates are carried out reliably. Since TYPO3 is built in PHP, the updates are linked to one another. If an outdated PHP version is in place, for example, a TYPO3 update cannot be carried out. Various security regulations in particular make TYPO3 updates – and therefore also PHP updates – unavoidable, since security vulnerabilities from older versions are fixed by an update. But the system must be kept up to date not only for security reasons. Updates also ensure full functionality on both sides – in the backend for the company and in the frontend for website visitors. 

What are the challenges of a TYPO3 update?

Since PHP is server-based, the server on which the website runs may need to be changed during an update so that the latest PHP version also runs the website smoothly. In some cases, an additional new server is required. If the server is also outdated, updates cannot be carried out accordingly.
